New United Ukrainian Ballet takes interpretation of GISELLE to London Coliseum
A newly formed Ukrainian Ballet company are to perform Giselle at the London Coliseum in London from 13-17 September, it has been announced.
The company of dancers were formed after they fled their homeland of Ukraine and have received support from local businesses and the government. Each member of the company has their own story of devastating war and how they escaped to reach safety. These personal journeys resonate powerfully with Giselle’s timeless themes of love, betrayal, death and mercy.
The London Coliseum production will be supported by English National Opera and Birmingham Royal Ballet, who will provide the orchestra, set and costumes.
Choreographed by Alexei Ratmansky, who is himself a Ukrainian citizen and is donating his time to the Company, the season will also see guest performances from Alina Cojocaru and Katja Khaniukova.
All profits from ticket sales will be donated to the DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal and the United Ukrainian Ballet Foundation, which has been set up in the Netherlands to protect, support and spread Ukrainian culture.
Public booking opens 11 July at 10am.
