New musical THE RHYTHMICS to receive world premiere at Southwark Playhouse

The Rhythmics

Aria Entertainment and Metta Theatre have announced that their new musical The Rhythmics will receive its world premiere at Southwark Playhouse from 2 December 2021-8 January 2022.

Hapless single-dad Grey is in a rut. Teenage daughter Silva packs him off to revive his rockstar dreams. He successfully auditions for ‘Nick & the Rhythmics' only to realise... He’s actually signed up for an all-male Rhythmic Gymnastics troupe.

Against the odds these burly blokes twirl their 'ribbons of fire' as far as the World Championships - and along the way Grey finally learns to embrace life. Calendar Girls meets Full Monty in this joyous new musical.

With a book and lyrics by Metta Theatre’s Artistic Director P Burton-Morgan (who also directs) and music and lyrics by Ben Glasstone, the piece is choreographed by Mark Smith, with musical direction by Erika Gundesen, musical supervision by Ellie Vekerk, sound by James Nicholson, costumes by Francine Huin-Wah, and set and lighting by Will Reynolds.

P Burton-Morgan said: “So thrilled to finally share the world premiere of this original new British musical with live audiences. I can’t think of anything more uplifting to welcome people back into theatres than this heart warming and hilarious tale of community and connection. A tonic for our times; Ben’s joyous score is an absolute bop.”
