New musical RIDE announces West End transfer next month
A new musical celebrating the first woman to cycle around the world will play at the West End’s Garrick Theatre next month. It will run for two semi-staged performances on 21 June at 3pm and 8pm.
Starring Gemma Sutton and Bronté Barbé, Ride premiered at the Vaults Festival last year, featuring music and lyrics by Jack Williams and a book/lyrics by Freya Catrin Smith. Smith will co-direct with Adam Lenson.
In this incredible true story, Sutton plays Annie Londonderry who returns to America in 1895 as the first woman to cycle around the world. But she can’t tell her story alone. Joined by her unwitting secretary (Barbé), plucky Annie shares her incredible adventures with the world but must learn to face troubles from her past along the way.
The creative team is comprised of choreographer Alfred Taylor-Gaunt, designer Libby Todd, lighting designer Sam Waddington and orchestrator Macy Schmidtt.
