A brand new musical stage adaptation of cult film Orphans will feature as part of the National Theatre of Scotland’s forthcoming programme, it has been announced today.

Adapted by Douglas Maxwell from Peter Mullan’s 1997 film, the production will receive its world premiere at the Glasgow SEC in April 2022.

Glasgow, 1998, one hell of a storm is ripping through the city. The Flynn siblings just need to survive the night and make it to their mother's funeral in the morning.

Thomas won’t leave the church. Michael is bleeding out and roaming the streets. John has a gun and a taste for revenge. And Sheila can’t wait to live life on her own terms. But things like this bring a family together, right?

The cast includes Amy Conachan, Robert Florence, Chloe Hodgson, Reuben Joseph, Harry Ward, and Dylan Wood.

Directed by Cora Bissett, this darkly comic musical is about family, grief and forgiveness, with music and lyrics by Roddy Hart and Tommy Reilly. It features set and costume design by Emily James, lighting by Lizzie Powell and sound design by Pippa Murphy.
