New musical IN CLAY returns to The Other Palace

After a five-star, sellout run at VAULT Festival 2023, IN CLAY: A New Musical comes to the main stage of The Other Palace for one night only in a concert format on 21 August, it has been announced.

Combining jazz manouche with contemporary musical theatre, IN CLAY is a one-woman musical “bursting with numbers that feel destined to become classics” (All That Dazzles).

IN CLAY debuted at VAULT Festival to stellar reviews earlier this year after sold out workshop performances at The Other Palace Studio and New Wimbledon Theatre Studio in late 2022. The run was also nominated for Show of the Week, and an Offies OffFest award.

Based on a true story, this “poignant reflection on ambition, regrets & self-fulfillment” (Fringebiscuit) is told from a quaint Parisian kitchen in the late 1930s. Marie-Berthe Cazin, a ceramist in her early 40s, eagerly awaits the arrival of her closest childhood friend and now celebrated artist, Henrietta Tirman. As Marie prepares for the evening ahead, she reflects on the great joys and sorrows of a life devoted to making art.

With music and lyrics by Jack Miles and a book and lyrics by Rebecca Simmonds, the concert will be directed by Grace Taylor, with musical direction by Matt Herbert.

All-star casting for the concert is to be announced.

Tickets for IN CLAY: IN CONCERT can be purchased here.
