New initiative sees UK theatres wrapped in barrier tape to spread positivity
A brand new scheme will see over 50 of our favourite theatres wrap themselves up in special barrier tape, relaying positive messages to passers-by.
“Missing Live Theatre” has been devised by #SceneChange, a community of stage designers, to raise awareness of the arts industry.
The National Theatre, Manchester’s Royal Exchange, Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh, Theatre Royal Plymouth, Lyric Belfast and Sherman Theatre were decorated yesterday, with West End theatres following suit today.
A spokesperson said: “As businesses begin to reopen, the doors of theatres remain firmly shut, whilst we navigate a way back to live performance. As we launch #MissingLiveTheatre, we want to bring joy and colour to theatres across the UK and Ireland, whilst highlighting the ongoing impact of Covid-19, and what we as an industry and local communities are missing.”
Other venues committed to the initiative are the RSC, Sadler’s Wells, Theatr Clwyd, Theatre Royal Stratford East, Sheffield Theatres, Ambassador Theatre Group, Theatre Royal Plymouth, along with many more who will place tape around their theatres from 6 July.
We LOVE this!
