In a recent interview, Ben Platt has revealed further details about the upcoming film adaptation of Dear Evan Hansen, including a rewritten ending and two new songs.

The film will receive its world premiere at the 2021 Toronto International Film Festival on 9 September 2021, before being released in US cinemas on 24 September 2021 and UK cinemas on 22 October 2021.

Platt told The Telegraph that the movie will have a revised ending, which allegedly holds Evan more accountable for his actions than is portrayed in the stage version.

Composers Benj Pasek and Justin Paul have also written two new musical numbers for the film: ‘Anonymous Ones’ for the character of Alana (Amandla Stenberg) and the second song (with a title tbc) will be sung by Connor, played by Colton Ryan.

The film is directed by Stephen Chbosky, with a screenplay by Steven Levenson, and music and lyrics by the aforementioned Pasek and Paul.

Dear Evan Hansen also stars Amy Adams, Julianne Moore, Kaitlyn Dever, Nik Dodani, DeMarius Copes and Danny Pino.
