New commissions available for South East theatre artists with Marlowe & Mercury Theatres

Marlowe Theatre

A new artist development programme for theatre artists in the South East has been launched by the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury and Colchester’s Mercury Theatre.

Ten commissions for new work that respond to the “recent challenges of our times and finds innovative ways to connect with audiences" are being sought after, with up to £1,000 given for each. This aims to support the development of work by theatremakers in Kent, Essex and Sussex.

Successful applicants will receive mentoring and support from both venues, including the use of their rehearsal spaces.

The commissions are part of Catalyst for Culture, a Marlowe-led initiative to support artists and share work across the region, which is funded by SELEP Ltd.

The deadline for proposals is 22 March, and more information on how to apply can be found on the Marlowe and Mercury websites.
