Inua Ellem’s new adaptation of ANTIGONE casts Zainab Hasan in title role at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre
Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre have announced casting and the full creative team for Antigone, which runs at the venue from 3–24 September.
Written by Inua Ellams, this contemporary retelling of Sophocles’s epic story has been commissioned by the theatre in its 90th anniversary year.
A torn family. A hostile state. One heroic brother. One misguided son. One conflicted sister, and the second is on the run.
The creative team includes composer Michael ‘Mikey J’ Asante MBE, choreographer Carrie-Anne Ingrouille, casting by Polly Jerrold, lighting by Jack Knowles, sound by Emma Laxton, costumes by Khadija Raza, set design by Leslie Travers (set designer), co-direction by Jo Tyabji, and direction by Max Webster.
Zainab Hasan plays the role of Antigone, and Tony Jayawardena plays Antigone’s uncle, Creon.
Also joining the cast are: Pandora Colin as Eurydice, Rhianna Dorris as Lyra) Sandy Grierson as Aleksy, Nadeem Islam as Polyneices, Abe Jarman as Eteocles, Oliver Johnstone as Haemon, Munir Khairdin as Nikomedes, Susan Lawson-Reynolds as Commissioner, Eli London as Tiresius, Shazia Nicholls as Ismene, Mervin Noronha as Chorus, Razak Osman as Athan, Joseph Prouse as Officer, Nadia Sohawon as Kyria, Riley Woodford as Strom and Lydia Bakelmun as walking understudy.
