Classic 1950s musical comedy CALL ME MADAM revived with Rosemary Ashe & Richard Gibson at Upstairs at the Gatehouse

Following the success of Strike Up the Band! and Once Upon A Mattress, director Mark Glesser returns to Upstairs at the Gatehouse with Call Me Madam, starring Olivier award nominee Rosemary Ashe and ‘Allo Allo’ star Richard Gibson.

This Tony award winning musical tells the story of Sally Adams, the unconventional ‘queen of Washington Society’, who is appointed US ambassador to the tiny Grand Duchy of Lichtenburg. She’s determined to refuse to shore up the country’s finances with American money, until she meets Cosmo Constantine, the Lichtenburg Foreign minister. Political chaos ensues.

The score by Irving Berlin includes ‘It’s A Lovely Day Today’ and ‘You’re Just in Love’. The cast includes Ashe and Gibson alongside Beth Burrows, Daniel Breakwell, Kevin Walsh, Zoë Ann Bown, Andrew Wheaton, Chrissie Perkins and Georgie Faith.

Call me Madam runs Upstairs at the Gatehouse between 9 September and 10 October, with tickets available here.
