Murder mystery TV series set during performance of THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA in the works
One of the world’s most renowned musicals, The Phantom of the Opera, has found a new way to extend its legacy by appearing in a television series for the first time.
The Show Must Go On is a new NBC's Peacock and Lionsgate Television production, brought to you by Zoey's Extraordinary Playbook creator, Austin Winberg.
As any theatre kid may know, making it to final curtain can feel like a matter of life or death - but what if that paranoia became reality? This is where we find our characters in the first season of this dark murder mystery comedy.
In the lead up to a big fictional performance of The Phantom of the Opera, cast and crew face the usual cast feuds, network pressures and most inconvenient of all – the sudden death of a lead performer.
Original composer, Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, stays close to the production as executive producer, alongside Robert Greenblatt and The Tannenbaum Company and Richard Shepard, who has been announced as pilot director.
Sources say, although the musical will not be presented in its entirety during the series, viewers can still expect many of the classic scenes and songs that we know and love, including ’The Music of the Night’.
