Multi award-winning theatrical songwriter Darren Clark pens song to help save Maidstone theatre

Multi award-winning theatrical songwriter Darren Clark has released a new song today to raise money for the Hazlitt Youth Theatre.

The youth group has operated out of Maidstone’s Hazlitt Theatre for 22 years but because of funding cuts due to the pandemic, the venue is now at risk of closure.

Two weeks ago colleagues at The Hazlitt began a public campaign to convince Maidstone Borough Council to reconsider their decision to remove its funding. The campaign resulted in a council vote to give the matter further consideration with two months of consultation and discussion.

‘All The Little Things’ is performed by two of the current youth theatre members, Devon Cable and Lee Bradley. The song has already had over 15,000 plays on social media and a music video has been created by two Hazlitt Youth Theatre alumni, Josh Barnes and Ashley Snoding.

The single has been officially released on Spotify, Itunes and all major streaming platforms today, with all proceeds going to the Hazlitt Youth Theatre.

Clark said: “Youth theatres are the springboard for our entire theatrical and entertainment industries. Ask most actors and creatives what kickstarted their interest in their career and the answer will inevitably be their local youth theatre. Some of the regional theatres that run these programmes are being abandoned in the wake of Covid-19. This song is about all the little moments that add such value to young people’s lives and consequently to us all from their subsequent careers. Theatres like the Hazlitt deserve not only our support but our unending thanks for the work they do.” 

Hazlitt Youth Theatre Director, Jenny Longley, said: “‘All the Little Things’ is not just about The Hazlitt Theatre and our story, it is for everyone who has missed something this year and didn't realize that the little things can sometimes turn out to be the big things.”
