Minack Theatre announces socially-distanced summer season
Despite their original season being cancelled due to coronavirus, the Minack Theatre has now announced a new summer program. Located on the Cornish cliffs, the venue has been described as one of the world’s most spectacular theatres.
Educating Rita, which was touring the UK, is being adapted by Willy Russell himself to fit an outdoor environment. Stephen Tomkinson and Jessica Johnson will also reprise their roles of Frank and Rita. The Minack’s other offerings include a one-man performance of Great Expectations, plus performances from Fisherman’s Friends and the improvised Mischief Movie Night.
To adhere with government guidelines, run times for all of these shows will be limited to 100 minutes. There will be no intervals and audience capacity will also be reduced. Cast members will also be protected by forming a ‘bubble’ with their team where possible.
Executive director Zoë Curnow, said: "The Minack is a beautiful place to visit but it's first and foremost a performance space and we are doing everything we can to give people the opportunity to see live theatre safely at the Minack this summer’.
With Regents Park Open Air Theatre announcing a Jesus Christ Superstar concert, to be staged this August, we expect more outdoor shows soon.
