Liverpool’s Everyman to reopen as cabaret venue in December
Liverpool’s Everyman will be transformed into a lively cabaret venue to stage a number of socially distanced performances next month.
The auditorium will be remodelled with cabaret tables for the limited programme running from 10-24 December and will start with Everyman and Friends, playing from 10-12 December.
The venue will celebrate the rich tapestry of independent arts organisation in Liverpool and will feature spoken word from A Lovely Word, burlesque by DisabiliTease, a choral performance by Sense of Sound and clowning around from Ugly Bucket Theatre Company.
Everyman Christmas Cabaret will take place from 17-24 December, turning the Everyman into an underground New York cabaret bar with music by Sondheim, Billy Joel, Shaina Taub and Joni Mitchell, and local performers including Emma Bispham, Gillian Hardie, Kelly Sweeney and Kenny Thompson. The event will be curated by musical director George Francis.
Francis said: "I’ve always been inspired by the cabaret clubs of New York, and I hope we can recreate that for you here in Liverpool. We’re working in a reconfigured set-up with a live band, four incredible local performers – all born and bred Liverpudlians – whose credits between them include musicals Kinky Boots, Blood Brothers, Rent and Six.
“It’s been a tough year for artists across the UK, so I hope you’re able to join us in celebrating the joy of live music, Christmas and being safely together in one place. As Jerry Herman said: ‘We need a little Christmas’.”
