Tony Winner Lillias White will take over the role of Hermes in Hadestown at Broadway’s Walter Kerr Theatre from 13 September; the first female-identifying actor to play the character.

White has appeared in numerous Broadway shows such as Dreamgirls, Cats, Once on this Island, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and The Life, for which she won a Tony Award. She most recently played the role of Matron "Mama" Morton in Chicago.

White will take over the role from T. Oliver Reid, whom understudied the role and took it over this summer after actor André De Shields' departure. Reid's final performance will be on 4 September.
