Leeds Playhouse and imitating the dog to collaborate on Covid-safe touring show

Dr Bloods Old Travelling Show

A brand new play called Dr Blood’s Old Travelling Show, inspired by classic horror films and carnivals, will tour the UK next month.

In a collaboration between Leeds Playhouse and imitating the dog, the outdoor show will play to socially distanced audiences in Halifax, Salford, Lancaster and Coventry.

Its debut performance will take place outside Leeds Playhouse on 7 & 8 October and will tour until 24 October.

The 30-minute standing show is written and directed by Andrew Quick and Pete Brooks, with design by Laura Hopkins, lighting by Andrew Crofts and music by James Hamilton.

Co-director for Imitating the Dog, Andrew Quick, said: "It’s a strange time to be making a new show but we are really looking forward to meeting the new challenges of creating work in the present conditions. We felt it was important to keep going and create a piece that was not only magical and entertaining but will abide by social distancing guidance and be Covid-19 safe.

"We’ll be using screen and camera technologies for which we are known and I just can’t wait to share with audiences and venues like Leeds Playhouse that have supported us over the last decade and for us all to come together and experience all the joys of live theatre outdoors.”

All ticket proceeds will be distributed between the touring venues to support them during the pandemic.
