Renée Lamb, Vicki Manser & Philippa Stefani to perform on A Mother’s War musical concept album

A Mother's War

Test of Time Entertainment have announced the forthcoming release of Will Geraint Drake’s A Mother’s War: The Musical concept album, featuring an ensemble cast of West End vocalists and performers.

The album, due to be released later this month, has been recorded and produced by the artists in their homes during lockdown. It combines traditional musical theatre with medieval pop, R&B and hip-hop.

The musical was originally performed in April 2019 as one half of ‘Herstoric’ at The Drayton Arms. It is set against the backdrop of one of the bloodiest civil wars in English history and focuses on key female contributions in bringing an end to the Wars of the Roses.

Renée Lamb, Vicki Manser, Philippa Stefani perform as Margaret Beaufort, Elizabeth Woodville and Margaret of Anjou respectively. They are accompanied on the album by ensemble Terry Burns, Rebecca Dawson, Rhiannon Drake, Will Geraint Drake, Kate Hume, Ben Irish, Amy Lynch, Aemilia Owen, Lara Sas, Humphrey Sitima, Jordan Veloso, Fed Zanni

Composer Will Geraint Drake said: “As a Wars of the Roses enthusiast, I was surprised to find little mention of the women involved in this conflict on my History A-level syllabus - and when I did, it was merely as “Edward IV’s wife” and “Henry Tudor’s mother.” It was these women’s lack of renown and visibility that lead me to start the process of trying to give a voice to them through song; they were incredibly important in shaping England’s history, and yet many don’t even know of their existence. By presenting their stories through a mix of medieval and modern music styles, hopefully I am able to share their lives with students, historians and music fans alike. I can only hope I’ve done these women justice!”

A Mother’s War: The Musical will be released on all major platforms on 27 November 2020 with a pre-release on 23 November.
