It has been announced that stage favourite Kristin Chenoweth will join the cast of the Warner Bros new film adaptation of Roald Dahl’s creepy children’s story, The Witches. The role that she will be playing is yet to be announced but she will join the previously announced Anne Hathaway, Octavia Spencer, Stanley Tucci, Chris Rock, Jahzir Kadeem Bruno and Codie-Lei Eastick.

Robert Zemeckis, Director of Back of the Future and Forrest Gump, will helm the project. This is the second cinematic adaptation of The Witches, with the first released in the 1990’s, grossing $15.3 million dollars and giving children all over the world nightmares!

The synopsis of this new adaptation is as follows. “Reimagining Dahl’s beloved story for a modern audience, Zemeckis’s visually innovative film tells the darkly humorous and heart- warming tale of a young orphaned boy called Bruno who, in late 1967, goes to live with his living Grandma in the rural Alabama town of Demopolis. As the boy and his grandmother encounter some deceptively glamourous but thoroughly diabolical witches, she wisely whisks the stories young hero away to an opulent seaside resort. Regrettably, they arrive at exactly the same time that the world’s Grand High Witch (a role that will be played by Anne Hathaway) has gathered her fellow wicked cronies from around the world – all undercover – to carry out her horrible plans”.

Whilst we remain unsure about when this new adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The Witches will be released, we can still get a taste of the action with the original film version now available to stream on Netflix.
