Ramin Karimloo & Laura Osnes

Tony award nominees Ramin Karimloo and Laura Osnes have appeared in a virtual reading of the new Houdini musical, it has been reported.

The musical, which is currently in development, follows the legendary magician during his final performance, reflecting on his achievements and rise to fame. Initial recording sessions have been held, along with a trans-Atlantic virtual reading.

Federico Bellone is tipped to direct the piece with Karl Sydow producing.

Bellone said: "This reading has been an astonishing dream, especially for the period we're living in right now. The creative collaboration gave us a definitive idea about how to bring this show to life on stage, presenting to our audience both the spectacular of Houdini's Magic and the strong emotional arc of the characters."

Further details on the creative team are to be announced.

It had previously been cited that previews would begin next year in Detroit but this is unconfirmed. Producers are also eyeing up Broadway and the West End in the near future.
