Jermyn Street Theatre have today announced their Spring 2022 Season. The season, which runs from mid-January to early July, is entitled ‘The Outsiders Season’ and will feature a number of premieres including an eagerly anticipated transfer of critically acclaimed musical thriller, Thrill Me: The Leopold and Loeb Story.

Thrill Me kicks off the season on 13 January and runs until 5 February. ‘Written by Stephen Dolginoff and directed by Matthew Parker, the show tells the story of Richard Loeb, who is obsessed with crime and Nathan Leopold who is in turn obsessed with Richard. Set in 1920’s Chicago, the two leave a trail of crime across America. 

Following this will be Crystal Skillman’s Rain and Zoe Save the World. This sees two teenage activists travel from Washington State to the East Coast to tackle the climate crisis and join a group of oil protestors. The show will be staged from 10 February until 12 March and will feature award-winning composer Bobby Cronin. 

Running from 17 March to 16 April will be another European premiere, The Marriage of Alice B. Toklas by Gertrude Stein, which is written and directed by Edward Einhorn. It tells the story of the wedding of the century, four actors will take on over 30 roles with Picasso, one of his wives and two of his mistresses, Hemmingway and his favourite matador in attendance for Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas’ wedding. 

In April, an adaptation of Virginia Woolf’s masterpiece Orlando will be staged by Sarah Ruhl from 28 April to 28 May. Following Orlando, an Elizabethan pageboy through his five centuries of life, we travel through the Victorian eras to the creation of the telephone.  

Rounding off the season will be Cancelling Socrates in a world premiere, in which playwright Howard Brenton reunites with Jermyn Street Theatre’s artistic director Tom Littler. Using eye witness accounts, Cancelling Socrates is a witty play that focuses on how Socrates went from being a pain in the neck in 399BC Athens to the revered founding father of philosophy he is now. The play will run from 2 June to 2 July.

During the season, a series of Sunday events titled One Night Only! will be staged and will feature a range of performances from Penelope Wilton and Checkov to new poetry.
