Jennifer Saunders to star in select performances of the new rescheduled Sister Act tour

Producers Jamie Wilson and Whoopi Goldberg have announced that Jennifer Saunders will reprise her role as Mother Superior in select performances on the UK tour of Sister Act The Musical.

The tour has been rescheduled due to the pandemic and will now open at Southampton’s Mayflower Theatre on 7 September. It will then go on to visit Leicester, Manchester, Newcastle, Birmingham, Cardiff, Dartford, Derry, Nottingham, Liverpool, Bristol and Dublin.

The tour follows its run at London’s Eventim Apollo from 20 July - 29 August 2021, which will star Saunders and Whoopi Goldberg herself.

Saunders will play ‘Mother Superior’ at the Mayflower Theatre Southampton from 7-11 September 2021, Manchester Palace Theatre from 27 Sep - 9 October 2021, Birmingham Hippodrome from 2 - 13 November 2021 and Wales Millennium Centre from 22 - 27 November 2021.

‘Mother Superior’ will be played by Lesley Joseph at the following venues, Leicester Curve from 13 – 25 September 2021, Dartford Orchard Theatre from 10 – 15 January 2022, Millennium Forum in Derry from 7 – 12 February 2022, and Nottingham Theatre Royal from 28 March – 2 April 2022.

The previously announced Brenda Edwards and Clive Role will play ‘Deloris Van Cartier’ and ‘Eddie Souther’ at selected venues.

Sister Act The Musical is directed by Bill Buckhurst, with choreography by Alistair David, design by Morgan Large,  lighting by Tim Mitchell, sound by Tom Marshall and musical supervision by Stephen Brooker. It features original music by Tony® and 8-time Oscar® winner Alan Menken, lyrics by Glenn Slater, book by Bill and Cheri Steinkellner with additional book material by Douglas Carter Beane.
