Spine-chilling ghost story, turned psychological thriller Murder in the Dark is currently playing to audiences across the UK. We spoke to actor Jonny Green who plays Jake, alongside Tom Chambers and Susie Blake, in the production.

For those who may not be aware, what is Murder in the Dark about and who do you play in the show?

The play is about a family who find themselves on a farm in the countryside on New Year’s Eve. Things aren’t quite as they seem…

What have you learnt from working with such seasoned actors like Tom Chambers and Susie Blake?

They’re both such amazing storytellers and to watch them navigate each audience differently has been a joy.

Ghost stories are hugely popular on stage from The Woman in Black to Ghost Stories to 2.22 A Ghost Story, and now Murder in the Dark - why do you think this genre is so popular and lends itself so well to the stage?

I think people like the fear of the unknown, it keeps them guessing!

You were part of the hit TV show It's A Sin - how did it feel to be part of something that has become so beloved?

I feel incredibly grateful to have been involved in such a special show with an important message. It was a joy to film.

You've recently done a fair bit of TV work and are now taking to the stage. How do the mediums compare and do you have a preference?

It’s hard to pick a favourite, I think it depends on the material you’re working with. I suppose the main difference is that with theatre, you’ve got to be conscious of the person sat on the back row getting the same experience as the person sat on row A, whereas with TV, the camera picks up every bit of your performance up close.

How are you finding touring life? Have you had a favourite venue or city to perform in so far?

I’ve loved it. Dublin was pretty special because the city is constantly buzzing. Going back to Manchester was lovely because I stayed with my family and I trained in Cardiff so going back there was a lot of fun.

Why should people see Murder in the Dark if it's coming to a theatre near them?

It’s an exhilarating ride full of twists and turns. It’s not something you’ll forget in a hurry!
