Initial casting announced for revival of THE BAKER’S WIFE at Menier Chocolate Factory

The Menier Chocolate Factory have announced initial casting for their major revival of Stephen Schwartz and Joseph Stein’s The Baker’s Wife, which plays at the venue from 6 July-14 September.

Directed by Gordon Greenberg, the cast includes Bobbie Chambers (Newsies, Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre) as Niece, Mark Extance (The Motive and the Cue, National Theatre) as The Teacher, Josefina Gabrielle (42nd Street, Sadler’s Wells/Toronto) as Denise, Jack Gardner (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, West End) as Philippe, Hana Ichijo (The Sound of Music, Chichester Festival Theatre) as Niece, Lucie Jones (Les Miserables; Wicked, West End) as Genevieve, Michael Matus (Twelfth Night, Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre) as The Marquis, Robyn Rose (Tammy Faye, Almeida Theatre) as Niece, Clive Rowe (The Prince of Egypt, West End) as The Baker, David Seadon-Young (An American in Paris, West End) as Antoine, Matthew Seadon-Young (Rockets and Blue Lights, Royal Exchange/National Theatre) as Priest, and Joaquin Pedro Valdes (Then, Now & Next, Southwark Playhouse) as Dominique. Full casting will be announced shortly.

The arrival of a new Baker and his younger wife turns a provincial French village upside down in this cult classic musical. Based on the film La Femme du Boulanger by Marcel Pagnol and Jean Giono, The Baker’s Wife is filled with some of Schwartz’s most ravishingly beautiful music, and will immerse the audience into world of Gallic charm in this first major UK revival since its West End première.

The production is designed by Paul Farnsworth, with lighting by Paul Anderson, choreography by Matt Cole, musical supervision and orchestrations by Stuart Morley, and musical direction by Dustin Conrad.

Tickets are on sale to the Menier mailing list from today, with public booking opening tomorrow (8 May) here.
