Robert Icke and Duncan Macmillan’s adaptation of 1984 by George Orwell is to be adapted into a five-part TV series, executively produced by the playwrights.

One of the most influential novels of our time, Orwell’s book centres on the consequences of totalitarianism, mass surveillance and repressive regimentation of people and their behaviour within society.

Icke and Macmillan’s version premiered at Nottingham Playhouse in 2013 before transferring to the Almeida Theatre and into the West End, prior to a sell-out international tour. It also played on Broadway most recently.

A release date for the series is yet to be revealed.
