Her Majesty’s Theatre to be renamed following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II

Her Majesty’s Theatre in London’s West End, which has been home to The Phantom of the Opera since 1986, will be renamed following the death of Queen Elizabeth II earlier this week.

The theatre has previously changed its name with the gender of the present monarch: the Queen’s Theatre for Queen Anne in 1705, the King’s Theatre in 1714 for King George I, Her Majesty’s Theatre for Queen Victoria in 1837, His Majesty’s Theatre in 1901 for King Edward VII, and Her Majesty’s Theatre again in 1952 for Queen Elizabeth II.

It is said that the venue will revert to His Majesty’s Theatre at the “appropriate time" following the coronation of King Charles III.
