Talk of a prequel to the 1978 classic movie musical Grease appears to have gained momentum this week as Deadline has revealed some of the film’s lead creatives.

Brett Haley will direct Summer Lovin’, which will mark his first major studio film, and Leah McKendrick is onboard as screenwriter.

The Grease prequel will travel back in time before Rydell High to Danny and Sandy’s first meeting and the summer fling that followed.

It has been said that, pending the success of the film, there is also the possibility of a franchise going forward.

A release date for Summer Lovin' is to be announced along with casting details.
