In further positive news today, a government petition asking for additional support to be given to the arts sector during the Covid-19 pandemic has surpassed 100,000 signatures, meaning that it will be now be considered for debate in the House of Commons.

The government petition, set up by Miles Croxford on 15 June, currently has a whopping 130,000 signatures and is ever growing. It requests answers on where theatre and the arts fits into the Coronavirus recovery roadmap and asks them to create a tailor-made financial support mechanism for the sector.

To date, there has been no direct mention of the arts and when Secretary of State Robert Jenrick was directly approached to comment on the subject four weeks ago, he was unable to give a clear answer.
