Further casting, creative team and dates announced for THE SEAGULL at Barbican Theatre

Further casting has been announced for Duncan Macmillan and Thomas Ostermeier’s new version of Chekhov’s masterpiece The Seagull, which plays at the Barbican Centre from 26 February - 5 April 2025.

Joining the previously announced Cate Blanchett as Arkadina and Tom Burke as Trigorin are Priyanga Burford (An Enemy of the People, West End) as Polina, Emma Corrin (Orlando, West End) as Nina, Zachary Hart (The Constituent, Old Vic) as Medvedenko, Paul Higgins (Romeo and Juliet, Almeida Theatre) as Shamrayev, Tanya Reynolds (A Mirror, West End) as Masha, Kodi Smit-McPhee (professional stage debut) as Konstantin, and Jason Watkins (A Servant to Two Masters, RSC/Young Vic/West End) as Sorin.

Also directed by Ostermeier, the production features set design by Magda Willi, costumes by Marg Horwell, sound by Tom Gibbons, and casting by Jim Carnahan CSA & Liz Fraser CSA.

Cate Blanchett stars as Arkadina, a celebrated actress whose larger-than-life presence dominates both the stage and her personal relationships. Arriving at her family's country estate for the weekend, she finds herself caught up in a storm of conflicting desires. Her playwright son, Konstantin (Kodi Smit-McPhee), struggles to step out of her shadow as he pursues his own artistic ambitions and her lover Trigorin (Tom Burke), becomes the object of affection for the aspiring young actress Nina (Emma Corrin).

As their lives entwine and they each grapple with their desires, ambitions, and disappointments, Chekhov's timeless story unfolds in a gripping tale of vanity, power, and the sacrifices made in the name of art.

Tickets go on general sale on 9 October, with further information on The Seagull here.
