Further casting announced for JOHN GABRIEL BORKMAN at the Bridge Theatre
Further casting has been announced for a new version of Henrik Ibsen’s John Gabriel Borkman, running at the Bridge Theatre from 24 September-26 November.
Joining Simon Russell Beale in the title role will be Olivier Award winner Clare Higgins (Hecuba, Donmar Warehouse; Vincent in Brixton, National Theatre) as Gunhild Borkman and Olivier and Tony Award nominee Lia Williams (The Night of the Iguana, Noel Coward Theatre; Mary Stuart, Almeida Theatre) as Ella Rentheim. Final casting will be announced at a later date.
John Gabriel Borkman, once an illustrious entrepreneur, has been brought low by a prison sentence for fraud. As he paces alone in an upstairs room, bankrupt and disgraced, he is obsessed by dreams of his comeback. Downstairs, his estranged wife plots the restoration of the family name. When her sister arrives unannounced, she triggers a desperate showdown with the past.
The production is directed by Nicholas Hytner, with set design by Anna Fleischle and costumes by Liam Bunster.
