The film adaptation of award-winning musical Matilda has announced its latest casting news, and there are some big names in the mix.

Joining the previously announced Emma Thompson as the terrifying head of school Miss Trunchbull, will be Stephen Graham (Line of Duty) and Andrea Riseborough (The Death of Stalin) playing the roles of Matilda’s uncaring and distracted parents Mr and Mrs Wormwood, whilst comedian Sindhu Vee has been announced to play librarian, Mrs Phelps.

Also in the cast is the previously announced Alisha Weir (Darklands) in the title role and Lashana Lynch (No Time To Die) playing everyone’s favourite teacher Miss Honey.

The musical, based on Roald Dahl’s classic book, is written by Dennis Kelly, with Tim Minchin having written the music and lyrics, with direction by Matthew Warchus (Pride). Kelly has also adapted the stage show for the screen.

The show is set to get a theatrical release in the UK, although a release date is yet to be announced. It is planned to have a streamed release via Netflix in other territories.
