Full casting announced for MY NEIGHBOUR TOTORO at Gillian Lynne Theatre

The full company has been announced for the multi-award winning stage adaptation of Studio Ghibli’s My Neighbour Totoro, which will play at London’s Gillian Lynne Theatre from 8 March - 2 November.

Victoria Chen (The Night Before Christmas, Polka Theatre) joins the company to play the role of Mei, whilst returning to their roles are Ami Okumura Jones as Mei’s older sister Satsuki, Dai Tabuchi as Tatsuo, Jacqueline Tate as Granny, and Ai Ninomiya as the Singer.

The show’s unique Kazego Puppetry Ensemble will once again include Matthew Leonhart, Heather Lai, Shaofan Wilson as Miss Hara and Anna Kato, who will be joined by new members: Rachel Clare Chan (Your Lie in April, West End), Sally Cheng (The Sound of Music, Pitlochry Festival Theatre), Sabrina Pui Yee Chin (endings, Young Vic), Victor Itang (The Magic Flute, Glyndebourne), Gabriel S Janoras (Wishmas, Secret Cinema), Ronnie Lee (The Ocean at the End of the Lane, West End/UK tour), Kumiko Mendl (Cyrano, National Theatre) as Nurse Emiko, Annakanako Mohri (Spirited Away, London Coliseum), Richard Peralta (Sherlock Holmes and the Poisonwood, The Watermill), Lucy Park (Priscilla: The Party, West End) and Chloe Ragrag (Three Musketeers, New Vic).

Completing the company are Phyllis Ho (Life of Pi, West End) as Yasuko, Steven Nguyen (The Rise of Hermit, Omnibus Theatre) as Kanta, Jamie Zubairi (Witness of the Prosecution, West End) as Hiroshi, and Deanna Myers (Shutters, Omnibus Theatre) as Tsukiko.

Adapted by Tom Morton-Smith from Hayao Miyazaki’s celebrated 1988 animated feature film, the production is directed by Improbable Co-Founder, Phelim McDermott, with production design by Tom Pye, puppetry design and direction by Basil Twist, costumes by Kimie Nakano, lighting by Jessica Hung Han Yun, movement direction by You-Ri Yamanaka, music from Joe Hisaishi’s iconic score in a new orchestration by Will Stuart, sound by Tony Gayle, video by Finn Ross and Andrea Scott, and casting by Hannah Miller CDG.
