Full cast announced for Zadie Smith’s debut play THE WIFE OF WILLESDEN at Kiln Theatre
Full casting has been announced for Zadie Smith’s upcoming debut play The Wife of Willesden at The Kiln Theatre, running from 11 November-24 December.
The auditorium will be transformed into the infamous Sir Colin Campbell pub ready for the production as it follows the story of Alvita, a local legend, married five times, mother, lover, aunt and friend. Born with the gift of the gab, Alvita - known as the Wife of Willesden - prepares to tell her life story to everyone in the pub.
Joining the previously announced Clare Perkins in the titular role are Marcus Aldolphy as Winston, Mandela and Black Jesus, Jessica Clark as Polly and Sophie, Crystal Condie as Author, Zaire, and Queen Nanny, George Eggay as Pastor and Eldridge, Andrew Frame as Ian, Socrates and Bartosz, Scott Miller as Ryan and Hussina Raja as Asma. Completing the cast are Theo Solomon as Darren, Young Maroon and Colin and Ellen Thomas as Aunty P and the Old Wife.
Director Indhu Rubasingham said: “We have assembled an incredible cast of ten players to tell Zadie’s play The Wife of Willesden. We hope that this production will be a unique experience - the combination of Zadie’s words, this cast, plus our transformation of the Kiln auditorium into the Sir Colin Campbell pub - this promises to be a truly special evening. I can’t wait to finally be able to share this world premiere with you all.”
Completing the creative team are designer Robert Jones, lighting designer Guy Hoare, and composers and sound designers Ben and Max Ringham.
