Fringe review: 1 HOUR OF INSANE MAGIC: AFTER DARK, Gilded Balloon Patter House

1 Hour of Insane Magic After Dark kicks off with a bang—or rather, with a dildo on stage within the first five minutes—so you know you're in for a wild ride. This late-night version of the popular Insane Magic show, following their sell-out success at Edinburgh Fringe 2023, certainly lives up to its name. Drinks are encouraged and as the night progresses, things only get better and spicier.

The dynamic trio of Luke Osey, Elliot Bibby, and Cameron Gibson team up to deliver an evening of magic with a cheeky twist, joined by special guest performers from the worlds of magic, circus, and variety. The magic itself usually falls into two categories: card tricks and mind reading. But what sets this show apart is the infectious energy and humour the performers bring to every trick, leaving the audience constantly wondering, "How did they do that?"

While a couple of tricks might have seemed a bit too unbelievable, the audience’s unanimous reaction made it clear that these moments were still a hit. The trio’s comedic timing is spot on, keeping the audience laughing in the brief moments between gasps of amazement. The creativity behind the tricks ensures that the show never feels repetitive, maintaining a fast pace that keeps everyone engaged from start to finish.

1 Hour of Insane Magic: After Dark is a perfect blend of humour, mystery, and a touch of risqué fun. It’s an unforgettable experience that delivers both jaw-dropping magic and plenty of laughs, making it a must-see for fans of late-night entertainment.
