Fringe review: LA CLIQUE, Underbelly’s Circus Hub on the Meadows

La Clique is an electrifying blend of circus, burlesque, comedy, and sheer talent that has become a staple of the Fringe experience. From the moment you enter the tent, with its energetic and loud music setting the tone, you know you're in for something special. The sight of a bathtub in the middle of the stage hints at the playful and unpredictable nature of the show to come.

This eclectic mix of 13 diverse acts delivers an evening of non-stop entertainment, where each performance stands alone without interaction with the others, keeping the audience on their toes. The variety is staggering, from acrobats and magicians to burlesque dancers, tap dancers, and even a fire eater and sword swallower. You never quite know what's coming next, but one thing is certain: it's all designed to impress, and impress it does.

The show kicks off with a bang, featuring a female performer who dazzles with her aerial routine on fabric suspended from the ceiling. Her performance is not only visually stunning but also playful, as she incorporates water from the onstage bath, giving the front rows an unexpected —and thoroughly wet— 5D experience. It's a unique and bold start that sets the tone for the rest of the show.

Heather Holiday's performance with swords and fire is another standout, captivating the audience with her daring and precision. These high-energy acts are interspersed with equally strong, though occasionally less memorable, performances that keep the audience engaged. The mix of tap dancing, cabaret, and balancing acts ensures that there's something for everyone, all delivered with a sense of fun and flair that keeps the crowd cheering and laughing throughout.

In summary, La Clique is a vibrant, varied, and thoroughly entertaining spectacle that you won't want to miss. While some acts may be more memorable than others, the overall experience is one of pure joy and amazement, making it a must-see at the Fringe.
