Four new short plays on animal ethics & environment to play at The Greenhouse Theatre

Patch Plays

Patch Plays are bringing four new short plays to the UK’s first zero-waste theatre The Greenhouse at Canary Wharf on 12 August, with the aim of engaging audiences with themes of animal ethics and the environment.

The evening brings together a team of 16 creatives who bring the four new scripts to life. This is a great opportunity for writers to get their work heard and seen by a live audience, staged by professional actors and directors and to gain feedback for potential further development. Last September, Patch Plays held their very first event, an outdoor scratch night. One of the plays, Meat Cute by Bibi Lucille, was later developed into a full-length play and staged by the company at Chiswick Playhouse earlier this year, selling out and receiving five star reviews.

The plays include: Blood on Your Hands by Grace Joy Howarth, exploring the experience of slaughterhouse workers, the oft-forgotten victims of the meat industry, and the true cost of meat most of us choose to ignore; Dead Mouse by Maria Majewska, which asks us to examine our place in a world where we attempt to separate ourselves from the natural world while simultaneously destroying it; Solarpunk by Alex Ansdell; and Whalesong by James Ireland, a rhythmic experience of our seas.

The plays are free to watch, although donations are welcome.
