First WICKED movie gets earlier cinema release date

The first part of Universal’s eagerly anticipated film adaptation of Wicked the Musical will be released earlier than originally planned on 27 November 2024, rather than the previously scheduled 25 December 2024.

The second instalment is set to be released a year later on 25 December 2025.

Director Jon M. Chu said on Twitter: “We are deep into production on ‘Wicked’ and everyday we get more and more excited to share with u the mischief we’ve been up to. So…We’ve decided to get it to you all a little earlier than planned. A little Thanksgiving treat!”

Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande will star as Elphaba and Glindain the film, with Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible and Ethan Slater as Boq.
