Netflix has announced its film adaptation of Tony award-winning play, The Boys in the Band, will be released on 30 September.

The comic drama will feature the complete Broadway revival cast with the show’s producers, Ryan Murphy and David Stone, involved in the film along with Ned Martel. Joe Mantello, who directed the stage revival, has also directed the movie.

The all-star cast includes Matt Bomer, Charlie Carver, Robin De Jesus, Brian Hutchison, Jim Parsons, Zachary Quinto, Andrew Rannells, Michael Benjamin Washington and Tuc Watkins.

The Boys in the Band focuses on a group of gay men who attend a friend’s birthday party at a New York apartment. As the evening progresses, cracks in their friendships are highlighted, along with self-inflicted heartache.

The play was last seen on Broadway in 2018 when it celebrated its 50th anniversary. In 2019, it picked up the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Play.
