New London open-air venue launches with musical revival of Fanny and Stella
In light of recent developments, Vauxhall’s new open-air venue The Garden Theatre will launch with a revival of musical Fanny and Stella from 3 August.
The newly refurbished beer garden at the Eagle pub on Kennington Lane will host the “hugely entertaining romp”, which will star Jed Berry (Kinky Boots) and Kane Verrall (The Sound of Music) with further casting to be announced. Steven Dexter will direct the musical with musical staging by Nick Winston and design by David Shields.
With a book and lyrics by Glenn Chandler and music by Charles Miller, Fanny and Stella tells the true story of Ernest Boulton and Frederick Park who were arrested in 1870 in Victorian London for cross-dressing.
Producer Peter Bull said: "We are taking baby steps as we venture into the brave new world of open-air socially distanced performances. We are only performing three shows a week initially but we aim to increase this after a successful launch."
Socially distanced seating has been arranged within The Garden Theatre and face masks must be worn for the duration of the performance.
Fanny and Stella will run from 3-25 August. To book tickets, please click here.
