Exeter Northcott announces three new productions in 2021

Three brand new productions have been announced by Exeter Northcott Theatre, which will be made and presented in Devon in 2021.

Opening in March will be The Honey Man, written by Tyrone Huggins and directed by Devon-based Director, Alix Harris. The show tells an absorbing tale about an unlikely relationship between an ageing West Indian recluse and a fiery sixteen year old heir to a country manor house.

Brecht’s version of Sophocles’ gripping political thriller Antigone will hit the stage in May, in a collaboration between the venue’s professional team and a student ensemble from Exeter University. The play pits a teenage girl against the power of the state, in a topical story of ‘strong man’ leaders and citizen power.

Northcott’s Artistic Director Daniel Buckroyd will the direct an adaptation of Michael Morpurgo’s Friend or Foe in June. The production follows two boys as they’re evacuated from London to Devon during the second world war, and will feature a mixed professional/community cast drawn from across the Devon county.

Buckroyd said: “It feels more important than ever that we platform the work of home-grown talent and partner with communities and locally-based creatives to present shows made right here in Devon. These Exeter Northcott productions will sit alongside a programme of work emerging from projects with local artists, communities and young people so the year ahead will see a broad range of our region’s creative voices coming through.”

Audiences can also look forward to a wide range of music, talks, comedy and entertainment in the new year: Families can book now for Horrible Histories’ Barmy Britain and The Gruffalo’s Child; Strictly Come Dancing fans can get close to the show’s stars Kevin and Joanne Clifton and Giovanni Pernice; animal-lovers can find out more about Gordon Buchanan’s adventures; and those in need of a good chortle can take their pick from a long line up of comedians including Geoff Norcott, Alistair McGowan, Rachel Parris, Jimmy Carr, Sarah Millican and Katherine Ryan plus many more.
