ENO’s HMS PINAFORE to be broadcast on Sky Arts

English National Opera’s 2021 production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s comic opera HMS Pinafore will be broadcast on Sky Arts on 27 April at 7pm, it has been announced.

The production, directed by Cal McCrystal, stars Les Dennis in his operatic debut as Sir Joseph Porter, and is joined by John Savournin as Captain Corcoran, Elgan Llŷr Thomas as Ralph Rackstraw, Alexandra Oomens as Josephine, Marcus Farnsworth as the Boatswain, Henry Waddington as Dick Deadeye, Hilary Summers as Buttercup, Bethan Langford as Hebe and Ossian Huskinson as Bob Becket.

The piece is conducted by Chris Hopkins, with set and costumes by takis, choreography by Lizzi Gee and lighting by Tim Mitchell. The original production ran at the London Coliseum on selected dates from 29 October to 11 December 2021.

The broadcast will also be repeated at various times the following Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
