English National Opera announces 2021/22 season including THE HANDMAID’S TALE
English National Opera (ENO) have announced the productions that will form their 2021/22 season, with highlights including new productions of HMS Pinafore and The Handmaid’s Tale.
HMS Pinafore will be staged from 29 October-11 December, directed by Cal McCrystal. The piece features Les Dennis (Hairspray), alongside John Savournin as Captain Corcoran, Elgan Llŷr Thomas as Ralph Rackstraw, Alexandra Oomens as Josephine, Marcus Farnsworth as the Boatswain, Henry Waddington as Dick Deadeye, Bethan Langford as Hebe, and Hilary Summers as Buttercup. Conducted by Chris Hopkins, the piece is designed by takis, with choreography by Lizzi Gee and lighting by Tim Mitchell.
Poul Ruders' opera, The Handmaid's Tale, is based on the award-winning novel by Margaret Atwood. It will play from 18 February-1 March 2022. Directed by Jamie Manton, the productions features design by Tom Scutt, and lighting by Lucy Carter. The cast includes Kate Lindsey (Offred), John Findon (Luke), Susan Bickley (Offred's Mother), Emma Bell (Aunt Lydia), Pumeza Matshikiza (Moira), Rhian Lois (Janine/Offwaren), Raehann Bryce-Davis (Serena Joy), Madeleine Shaw (Rita), Solomon Howard (The Commander), Frederick Ballentine (Nick), Elin Pritchard (Ofglen), Alan Oke (The Doctor).
Tickets will go on sale on 2 June.
