EMOJILAND THE MUSICAL announces cast and dates for US national tour

The cast and first four venues for this summer’s US national tour of hit 2020 Off-Broadway show Emojiland the Musical have been announced.

The eight-week summer tour will start on 3 June in Columbus, before playing Hartford, Boston and Philadelphia. Additional venues and dates are soon to be announced.

In the inclusive spirit of the show, the creators took a unique approach to finding the touring cast: through a nationwide social media campaign, seeking out undiscovered talent from across the country. All roles were open to all performers, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability, or experience level. Over 1,400 performers from across the nation submitted, and the process culminated in the finalists getting flown to New York City for their final callback.

The 17 dynamic actors set to portray the iconic emojis of the Emojiland kingdom are: Michael C. Brown as Skull, Dahlya Glick as Person in Business Suit Levitating, Christopher Hobson as Sunny, Sarah Isola as Smize, Steven Klenk as Prince, Jaden Dominique Lewis. as Construction Worker, Keith Mankowski as Guard, Oshie Mellon as Kissy Face/Information Desk Person, Sheridan Mirador as Nerd Face, Gina Morgigno as Princess, Maeghin Mueller as Pile of Poo, Zachary A. Myers as Police Officer, Andrew Tufano as Person Dancing #2, and Alana Walker as Person Dancing #1. The swings are comprised of Eustace J. Williams, Allyson Gishi and Samantha N. Sostarich.

Emojiland originally opened Off-Broadway at the Duke on 42nd Street in January 2020, where it received a New York Times Critics’ Pick and played a total of 11 Previews and 59 Performances prior to the shutdown of the theatre industry on 12 March 2020.

Not to be confused with, and very much unlike “The Emoji Movie,” Emojiland is an electric ensemble piece inspired by The Unicode® Standard, about a diverse community of archetypes who take one another at face value: a smiling face dealing with depression; a princess who doesn’t want a prince; a skull dying for deletion; a nerd face too smart for their own good; a face with sunglasses who can’t see past their own reflection; and a police officer and construction worker who just want to work together. When a software update threatens to destroy life as they know it, Emojiland faces the most fundamental questions a society – and a heart – can face: Who are we? And who matters?

Emojiland’s music and orchestrations are by Keith Harrison Dworkin, with a book & lyrics by Keith Harrison Dworkin & Laura Schein, direction by Thomas Caruso, choreography by Kenny Ingram, set design by David Goldstein, lighting by Jamie Roderick, sound by Josh Samuels, projection by Lisa Renkel & Possible, music supervision by Lena Gabrielle, and musical direction by Nick Wilders.
