Following its huge success at Cornwall’s Minack Theatre, David Pugh is delighted to announce that his critically acclaimed production of Educating Rita will play at the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton from 9-13 February 2021 to socially distanced audiences.

Educating Rita tells the story of married hairdresser Rita, who enrols on an open university course and her encounters with university tutor Frank. He’s a frustrated poet, academic and drinker who is less than enthusiastic about teaching Rita but when she reignites his passion for literature, they realise how much they have to learn from each other. The cast for this production includes Stephen Tompkinson as Frank and Jessica Johnson as Rita.

Producer David Pugh said: “Educating Rita was a phenomenal success 40 years ago and who would have known what a phenomenon it would become in these socially distanced times. Audiences and critics raved when we played the Minack Theatre this summer and I can’t tell you how chuffed I am to be bringing it to Mayflower Theatre Southampton.”

Tickets for its Southampton run go on sale on Thursday 3 December here.
