It has been announced that Karim Khan’s Brown Boys Swim, which was a hit at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe, will play in Oxford and London later this year.

The show, which won the prestigious Popcorn Award and The Scotsman’s Fringe First Award, will transfer to The North Wall, Oxford, playing from 22-24 September, before heading to London for a run at the Soho Theatre from 26 September-15 October.

Produced by The North Wall, Brown Boys Swim follows boisterous and self-opinionated best friends Mohsen (Anish Roy) and Kash (Varun Raj), preparing for their post-school future. But first they want to be invited to the biggest social event of the term, Jess Denver’s pool party, without letting the fact that they can’t swim stop them. Fuelled by halal Haribo, university-minded Mohsen and girl-crazy Kash set out to teach themselves to be at one with the water, but it’s not that simple as they must tackle expectations, prejudice, and public changing rooms.

Brown Boys Swim explores how systemic racism and societal pressures can push people along, preventing us from being and understanding our most authentic selves in a funny and moving manner.

Writer Karim Khan said: “I’m incredibly excited for the play to transfer to Oxford and London, and to see the show take further life in front of more wonderful audiences. Our Edinburgh run was wonderful and beyond my wildest dreams, so I can’t wait to embark on the next left of the journey. I also can’t wait to see some desi crowds filling up Soho Upstairs.”

Tickets for Brown Boys Swim at The North Wall are available here and at Soho Theatre here.
