Disney's live-action Pinocchio film announces further casting

Disney have announced some great casting news for their live-action version of Pinocchio. Joining the stellar line-up will be award-winning stage and screen star Cynthia Erivo and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, it has been announced today.

According to media reports, The Color Purple stage star Erivo will play the Blue Fairy (who helps support the titular puppet who is brought to life as a boy), while Gordon-Levitt will voice Jiminy Cricket. Other new casting news includes Benjamin Evan Ainsworth who will voice Pinocchio, with Keegan-Michael Kay as the voice of Honest John and Lorraine Bracco as Sofia the Seagull (set to be a new character to the live-action film). 

The new cast join the previously announced Luke Evans as the Coachman and Tom Hanks as Geppetto. Disney’s new live-action is being directed by Robert Zemeckis (who helped co-write the upcoming Back to the Future musical and a whole host of other fantastic films including Forrest Gump).

No release date is currently set for the film.
