Disney to produce film adaptation of THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE

Disney is set to produce a live action film adaptation of Tony-nominated musical, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a musical comedy with a book by Rachel Sheinkin, and music and lyrics by William Finn.

The show tells the story of a fictional spelling bee at Putnam Valley Middle School, where six quirky adolescents compete in the competition, run by three equally quirky grown-ups.

The 2005 Broadway production earned itself six Tony Award nominations, winning two for Best Book of a Musical and Best Featured Actor in a Musical.

The film’s creative team will be revealed in due course.
