Once On This Island

Disney+ is the gift that just keeps on giving! The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that a live-action film adaptation of Once On This Island is being developed for the streaming service.

The musical will be adapted for the small screen by playwright Jocelyn Bioh and directed by Wanuri Kahiu.

Once On This Island premiered Off-Broadway in 1990 and then received eight Tony award nominations upon transferring to Broadway. It was revived in 2018 when it won the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical.

The show tells the story of Ti Moune, a peasant girl whose love against prejudice and hate is tested by four Gods.

Casting and a release date will be announced in due course.
