Vale Mill in Mossley, Tameside has started its transformation into the fully accessible Carnival Centre of Excellence in the North. 

It will hold a theatre (of which the capacity is yet to be confirmed), studios, space for live music and artist accommodation.  

Global Grooves, who are already based in the building, have been tasked with running The Carnival Centre of Excellence in the North, with an aim to create “Tameside’s first high quality and accessible arts centre” with facilities for local and international artists. 

£1 million has been raised towards the project from sources including Arts Council England, the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Mossley Town Council, Foyle Foundation, Youth Music, Action Together, Jigsaw Housing and Sports England. 

The first phase of the building work is expected to be completed by the end of September with hopes of opening to the public by the end of 2021. The venue will then run a year-round programme of live music, theatre, dance, and cinema. Global Grooves will also continue to create large productions and host workshops and courses.
