Comedy scriptwriting competition launched by Transition Stage Company

Transition Stage Company have launched a new comedy scriptwriting competition to shine a light on the voices of Black, Asian and minority writers.

Amplified Voices Through Comedy asks entrants to submit a comedy script of up to 10 minutes in length. Five finalists will then be chosen by a panel of judges including commissioning editor of comedy at the BBC and newly appointed head of UKTV Comedy Sarah Asante, writer and director Darcia Martin, writer and director Anya Camilleri, and director of artistic programmes at Birmingham Hippodrome Chris Sudworth.

Each of the finalist’s scripts will be performed at a broadcast event where the audience will vote for the winner.

Finalists will receive a free script-writing masterclass and the winner will receive £1,000.

The deadline for the competition is 30 July. The event will be filmed and recorded in September and broadcast in October, with further details to be announced in due course.
