Christmas selection box of entertainment offered by Oxford Playhouse

Oxford Playhouse has announced a Christmas selection box of family entertainment online this festive season, with free access for Oxfordshire schools and children during the Christmas break.

In partnership with Lyric Hammersmith, OperaUpClose and Lyngo Theatre, the productions available will include Father Christmas, Sammy and the Beanstalk and The Gift of Winter.

Adapted by Pins and Needles, Raymond Briggs’ Father Christmas is the perfect festive treat for under 8s and anyone young at heart! The high quality recording can be viewed from 9-24 December.

Sammy and the Beanstalk is a new urban fairytale from OperaUpClose. It is a fun, spooky and contemporary Christmas story for children aged 7+ and will be available to watch from 19 December 2020-3 January 2021.

The Gift of Winter by Oxford Playhouse and Lyngo Theatre is a show for young families to do at home, not just watch! Audiences will make props and table-top sets from recycled materials and household objects, inventing their own sensory sessions and taking a creative-play journey together through a garden of delights. This experience is available to book until 18 December.

Joint Directors/CEO, Oxford Playhouse, Louise Chantal & Vanessa Lefrançois, said: “Oxford Playhouse is thrilled to continue its tradition of presenting Christmas shows for young children, even if this year we’ve moved online and out of our Burton-Taylor Studio! All three of our Christmas selection box productions offer a truly magical experience for children which can be safely enjoyed in the comfort of school or home.  We are especially thrilled to be able to offer, in partnership with Lyric Hammersmith and OperaUpClose, free tickets for Oxfordshire Schools for Father Christmas and Sammy and the Beanstalk.”
